Before there were video games, there were plenty of other forms of entertainment. So it doesn’t take a rocket scientest to figure out video games didn’t exist 126 years ago. In the late 1800’s electricity was very limited to it’s applications. So what did Nintendo do back then?
Back when Nintendo started, they originally started as a card company (no, amiibo cards didn’t exist either!), selling playing cards and even toys. Nintendo ended up jumping on the video game wagon when arcades began to become popular in the very early 80’s, and the rest is history as they say.
Interestingly enough, it’s cool to see Nintendo going back to its roots with amiibo, which are technically considered toys, and in the case of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Academy, even cards! Up until the release of amiibo, it’s been a very long time since the release of Nintendo toys created and distributed through them and not another party or company.
It’s been a year of loss for Nintendo, with a not-so-great E3 Digital Event and with many games like Star Fox Zero and Legend of Zelda Wii U being pushed back into next year. More importantly though, the loss of Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has left an impact on the hearts of people worldwide. Hopefully Nintendo can recover. What are your thoughts?
