Today at Microsoft’s E3 Conference, Rare announced a new IP from the studio called Sea of Thieves.
Sea of Thieves is a pirate-themed multiplayer game, described as the studio’s most ambitious game to date. It allows gamers to group together to explore islands, seek for treasures and fight enemies among other things. Sea of Thieves reveal trailer below shows a colorful cartoonish world with dense jungles and harbour areas:
It seems that Sea of Thieves will feature an MMO-like experience, once assembled together in a group, players will be able to take to the ocean in their own vessels, explore the world and do battle with other groups of players in their very own ships. Expect cannonfire and ship-ramming in these high-seas encounters. Sea of Thieves seems to be in first person for some reason.
Microsoft says Sea of Thieves will be out on Windows 10 and Xbox One on “holiday 2016”.
Either way, it’s great to see Rareware work on a game that isn’t a Kinect game or avatars, let’s hope Sea of Thieves delivers.
