Nintendo announces the Nintendo Switch

Nintendo finally unveil Codename NX as the Nintendo Switch, their brand new next-gen successor to the Wii U.

First Look at Nintendo Switch

Nintendo has finally provided the first glimpse of its new next-gen home console titled the Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer experiences at home, the Nintendo Switch will enable gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. As demonstrated in the reveal trailer, gamers can play titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the new Mario game at home and on the go.

At home, the Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with friends, family, or by yourself. By simply lifting the Nintendo Switch from it’s dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same gaming experience that you had at home can continue wherever you travel. The portability of the Nintendo Switch, with its 720p high-definition display, brings the home console experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment, as shown in the reveal trailer.

The Nintendo Switch can be removed by it’s detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side. One person can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two people can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people. One can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or one can buy the optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. The mobility of a handheld device, along with numerous people in bringing their Nintendo Switch systems together for local multiplayer competition is the core design of the Nintendo Switch system.

Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.
