The current generation of consoles looking to finish strong and the Playstation 4 and Xbox One are both just around the corner. Many people are looking forward to strong exclusives and new IPs. With all this anticipation and expectation, it is easy for one to get sidetracked. I want to take a second to direct your attention to a subject that often gets overlooked. Fan desire. Any industry is in place for one reason and one reason only. Money. Unfortunately, sales are regarded higher than art. This is understandable but heartbreaking. Some of the most promising ideas to pave the way for new games and gamers, branch off into the “safe zone”. We were lucky enough to see a follow up to Capcom’s Resident Evil in 1998 with Resident Evil 2. While the series has taken twists and turns (not directly after), it has certainly left a desire for what we once loved to death. But could it work in today’s gaming world?

Resident Evil 2 took the world by storm, effortlessly setting the standard for a suspenseful experience. 1998 is a year that will remain with us as long as we have brains to remember it, should we be lucky enough to not have them eaten by zombies. When Capcom hit the Gamecube with a REmake of Resident Evil which originally hit in 1996, people immediately looked to the future. Everybody adored the REmake. It still stands as one of the greatest experiences I have ever had on a console. If it was that good, what joys would a remake of arguably the series’ shining gem bring? Sadly, we are still waiting for the answer to that question.

When it comes to characters, Resident Evil 2 is stacked. We have two protagonists that are understandably human but are forced to fight for survival. Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield both star as debuting heroes. Accompanied with supporting cast of all kinds, there are many twists and turns. Emotions to experience such as romantic or family love can range all the way to confusion or betrayal.

And then there are these guys, who you’ll just have to play the game to experience.

When people argue against the idea of this game being remade, it usually follows one of two frameworks. Some people want to respect the original masterpiece which is something I totally respect and love. The other massive group seems to be that which believe a balanced gameplay which is accessible yet accommodates old school fans, is impossible to produce.

A completely understandably classic yet accessible game experience to both classic fans and newcomers. If this game style was implemented into a RE2 Remake, it would do a little for everybody. A perfect fit.

Above are a few fan-made examples of what a RE2 Remake could actually look like. I know. It’s beautiful.

This isn’t the first era where fans have been pushing Capcom for this game. Spiritually, the release of Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles was a remake. Although fans enjoyed the experience, a full remake is still deeply desired. Some have gone so far as to create petitions which have amounted thousands of signatures. You can find the current petition, Here.

Fans are also actively joining and supporting the Remake Resident Evil 2 Facebook page and keeping up on all news that is RE related.

The purpose of this was to ask the question “Would a RE2 Remake work?”. The answer is a strong “Yes”. This game would work gloriously. As a person who believes in fans’ voices being heard and believes in desiring art for all the right reasons, I am going to ask you to spread the word. Send this article to people! Show people the petition and the Facebook page! My inner fan wouldn’t be able to publish this without backing it, to some degree. Sign the petition and have your opinion heard by Capcom (whatever your opinion may be). 2013 is RE2’s 15th anniversary. Let’s hope for a big announcement!
