In case you didn’t watch Tokyo Game Show when it happened, Shuhei Yoshida demonstrated one of the many capabilities of the PlayStation app that will launch on both iOS and Android platforms alongside the PS4. During his demonstration, he exhibited it’s second screen functionality with the pre-installed PS4 game, The Playroom. He drew a picture of Knack and pushed it into the game. The virtual robots then began to play with the drawing Shu had made. Pretty cool, for a pre-installed game that likely nobody will try out.
SCEE Blog Manager, Fred Dutton, sat down with Shu immediately after the event to get more info on the app. Other functions of the app include the ability to send and receive text and voice messages, check multiplayer game invites, and purchase PS4 content from the PlayStation Store, which automatically downloads immediately after purchase. Notable games receiving second screen experiences via the PlayStation app include the likes of Watch Dogs and Battlefield. Shuhei also stated that smaller developers will be able to use the app to connect to PS4 to load applications, such as a drawing application, without downloading a separate app. That is all we know about the app for now so expect more details to be revealed.
What do you think of the app? Let us know in the comments below. Thanks!
