Bioware is, to no one’s surprise, really doing Mass Effect 4. The question is, what will the plot be?
Although still only in the planning stages, Bioware has begun to discuss that ‘Mass Effect 4’ is in its infancy stages. Taking a fresh take on a series that has garnered millions of fans won’t be easy, but there’s certainly more than enough room in the universe for 2.
You can still expect the pillars for the deductible is known to be fully intact though, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling.
The series will shift to BioWare Montreal, and Studio Director Yanick Roy has said on the official BioWare blog that they will be “respectful” of the original trilogy.
Mass Effect 4 is going to be powered by the Frostbite 2 Engine which debuted in 2011 with Battlefield 3. The engine takes full advantage of the DirectX 11 API and 64-bit processors, with no support for DirectX 9 (nor, therefore, Windows XP). It also features enhanced in-game destruction with Destruction 3.0, creating more refined physics than its predecessor and quasi-realtime radiosity using Geomerics’ Enlighten technology. Some games powered by Frostbite 2 are:
- Battlefield 3
- Need for Speed: The Run
- Medal of Honor: Warfighter
- Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel
- Command & Conquer
- Battlefield 4*
- Dragon Age III: Inquisition
- Mass Effect 4**
Editor’s notes:
*May be powered by a newer version of Frostbite.
**Title may change.
