After much deliberation between Joseph and I, we have come up with a list of features we would like to see most for the next installment of Super Smash Bros. Before I go on, I must warn you that these features have in no way been officially announced at the time this article was written. These are nothing more than wishful thoughts that would be awesome if true. They are in no particular order.
Character Customization:
- Character customization would be a refreshing addition to the 15-year-old franchise.
- They could release clothing and movesets for characters they do not plan to add officially via DLC.
- They could integrate this portion of the game into Miiverse. You would be able to search for characters by character name & author name and sort by newest, most ‘yeah’, and name. The best quality ones would get a permanent feature in the Smash Bros Miiverse community.
Promotional Stage Builder Packs:
- The packs would include backgrounds, music, floors, hazards, etc themed around environments seen in a month’s biggest Nintendo game release. The packs would release alongside these games and be free for two weeks.
- There would be contests to see who can make the best stage themed around the game.To submit your stage, you would post a screenshot to the Super Smash Bros Miiverse. The winner gets a copy of said game and envy of the entire Miiverse.
- After the promotional periods end, the packs are made available for purchase at select GameStop stores for $7 USD or via the eShop for ~$7 USD.
Cross Platform Interactivity:
- Either using your 3DS as a controller for the Wii U version or playing on the Wii U version against 3DS users.
Hidden Content:
- Synch your Wii U version with your 3DS version to unlock content (which doesn’t show up until it is unlocked) that you cannot get otherwise .
Detect Save Data:
- Unlock characters and/or stages early for reaching certain milestones in select Nintendo games.
Major League Gaming Tournaments: (Okay, so this isn’t a feature as much as it’s a community thing.)
- I’m not much into the competitive gaming scene and likely never will be, but for those who are, this will be nice to see.

Sakurai already stated no cross platform play between each platform due to exclusive stages, but they’ll be able to interact with one another
