In case you missed it, Bill Nye issued an open offer to creationists to debate with him on whether or not creation is still a viable method of teaching our children in this day and age. Australian creationist, Ken Ham, accepted the offer. The two debated yesterday in front of a local and internet-connected audience. You can find the video of the debate (which is almost 3 hours long) embedded above. The video has ratings and comments disabled to prevent any unnecessary arguments between viewers online.
Some may not see the value in watching other people debate, touting that it’s on par with something like a football game. The reason Bill Nye wanted to debate a creationist is because he wanted to see if there was a compelling argument against science. Ken Ham accepted the offer because he wanted to see if there was a compelling argument against creation. I don’t know what the participants walked away feeling, but the community of each side is proclaiming victory. That’s the difference between watching a football game and watching a debate. A football game has scores explicitly tallied. A debate is, at the core, about which argument is more compelling.
