The timely exclusive for the Dreamcast, Grandia II, which holds an impressive 90/100 on said platform but sadly only 71/100 on the PS2 and 70/100 on PC when Grandia II was re-released 13 years ago on those two platforms in what many fans consider bad ports of Grandia II is coming to Valve’s digital distribution platform. GungHo Online Entertainment told GameSpot today that a remastered version of Grandia II is underway.
Thankfully the remastered version is based on the Dreamcast version of Grandia II giving an HD visual upgrade, Grandia II will have support for both mouse and keyboard as well as gamepad support. Plus Grandia II will also feature Steam Achievements and Steam Trading Cards.
GungHo decided to remaster Grandia II based on a survey they launched via Twitter last month which received an overwhelming response. GungHo America President Jun Iwasaki said the advent of the digital market makes it “especially important that classic games continue to remain available to play in some form.” adding “Grandia II was chosen for a PC re-release because it represents both a hallmark of the Grandia series and an example of how great JRPGs can be.”
Unfortunately GungHo has given no hint on a possible release date, let’s hope they keep surveying for more remasters, I wouldn’t mind more Grandia games or even Lunar coming to Steam. Either way what other Game Arts classics would you like to see?
