The man responsible for turning Nintendo into a global gaming powerhouse Hiroshi Yamauchi, died this Thursday in Kyoto, Japan at the aged of 85. Yamauchi died at the hands of pneumonia.
Yamauchi as the President of Nintendo from 1949 until 2002, was Japan’s most unlikely success story. Yamauchi took over as chief of Nintendo after his grandfather’s death in 1949, transforming Nintendo from a playing card company into a global gaming juggernaut that we all know them today.
Without Yamauchi, we would have never gotten Nintendo to be a gaming company which in the process would never have saved gaming in America from the Video Game Crush of 1983 with the help of the Nintendo Entertainment System. His contribution to the gaming medium cannot be overstated!
The entire staff at Stagger’d would shared our grief to this saddened news of a legend died and we hope his family is alright from this. We can’t possible thank you very much Mr. Yamauchi. Without your contribution, gaming in America would be god knows what.
R.I.P Hiroshi Yamauchi.
