Introducing the Steam Controller

So with announcements such as SteamOS and Steam Machines, Valve’s plans to bring the Steam experience to the living room is a done deal with the Steam Controller, a ”vastly superior control scheme” that Valve has been making for over a year.

The Steam Controller is quite a different control scheme that we seen, with it supporting a touch-screen, and super-precise haptic feedback. The Steam Controller will work with all Steam Games, even older games in the Steam catalog and games not built for controller support by fooling it into thinking the game is being played through a mouse and keyboard all in little to no latency.

“The Steam controller offers a new and, we believe, vastly superior control scheme, all while enabling you to play from the comfort of your sofa,” Valve said. “Built with high-precision input technologies and focused on low-latency performance, the Steam controller is just what the living-room ordered.”

Valve also mention that the Steam Controller is also designed to be modified. Valve later down the road will make the tools available to customize the controller in what the player sees fit.

More info on this controller is at Steam’s website.

  1. I wonder about durability… gaming trackpads tend to wear out quickly…

    • Yeah I hope the trackpads don’t wear out quickly but I trust that Valve would know not to do that. I hope.

      • I hope you’re right. Seems like a cool concept. The question is, will it work?

        • People said that to the N64 analog stick and the rumble feature on it and look what happen. Industry standard!
