Through a report on The Verge, Microsoft is looking to put together their own cloud based service to compete with Gaikai on the PS4.
The company reportedly showed off Halo 4 being streamed to a low end Windows PC and a Windows Phone from the cloud. The phone (a Lumia 520) was able to play Halo 4 through an Xbox controller adapter with latency as low as 45ms.
Microsoft officials have no further comments on the service since it’s too early in development to discuss, as it doesn’t have a name yet.
Between Sony’s Gaikai and Valve’s SteamOS, Microsoft is starting to be a part of the streaming service movement that will be growing fast as this new generation of consoles (Wii U, PS4, Xbox One, etc) continues. Regardless if it will be good or bad for gaming, time will tell.
