PS4 exclusive DriveClub has been delayed to 2014

DRIVECLUB will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations. —Shuhei Yoshida

Through an official statement from Sony’s Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida, Evolution Studios’ PS4 exclusive DriveClub will be delayed to 2014. Both the full game and it’s free PlayStation Plus edition will not be released this year in the PS4’s launch.

Driveclub differs from Evolution Studios previous racing franchise, MotorStorm, in that it will focus on road racing rather than off-road. It will not be classified as a racing simulator like the Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport series, but as a rival to Grid 2. There will also be a team racing element to the game, with players managing racing teams and using the PlayStation Plus network and PlayStation 4’s “share” features to manage teams with other players.

At E3 2013 Sony announced that there will be a special edition of Driveclub which will be free for PlayStation Plus subscribers. The PlayStation Plus edition will have the same mechanics featured in the retail game and the ability to obtain the Platinum trophy, but a limited selection of cars and tracks. Yoshida made it clear that when the game does come out next year, the PlayStation Plus edition of DriveClub will be free as it was originally announced when it was suppose to be released this year.

Contrast, a surreal film-noir platformer will be replacing DriveClub‘s PlayStation Plus edition when the PS4 launches next month in November 15, 2013.

Just a guy that is friendly and loves his video games to death. :3

  1. Hopefully this extra time will serve to polish the game. Why release something that is not ready? *ahem* EA *ahem* Anyway, I haven’t been following this title and I have moved away from racing games. Mass Effect introduced me to the awesome time-consuming action RPG genre which have kept me entertained for the last few years. I now even role-play while playing GTA Online!

    • Maybe they saw the upcoming Forza preview videos? 😛
